It was dream begun almost 20 years ago – an all-volunteer effort to one day restore Hopewell Junction's last standing railroad building – the one that gave birth to this community. While it was badly ravaged by fire and the elements, the building had tremendous character and history.

Our vision was to create a showcase for the community's industrial past. The building was reopened in 2012 by an amazing all-volunteer effort. Its museum rooms were opened in 2013.

What is desperately needed now are restrooms for both our visitors and to serve Dutchess Rail Trail users.

To do that we must raise the funds needed to recreate the 1892 vintage Switching Tower #196 located opposite the restored Depot.

The Tower’s upper floor will be a museum room with replica control apparatus. The ground floor plan calls for two restrooms with composting flush toilets for school and civic groups, Depot visitors, and Rail Trail users.

To date, with $30,000 in the Tower Fund, we are almost half-way there, and funds raised through this CauseVox campaign will help us to complete the project by the end of this year or possibly sooner.

To do this, we must broaden our support if we are to continue our mission – to bring together people interested in history, especially that of Hopewell, and to promote a better understanding of our community and its railroad heritage.

While events such as craft fairs and dinners have had encouraging support, they are limited in scope. We already have the spirit, volunteer commitment, and clear vision of our goal. Additional funds received via this campaign would be a great boon to us and would allow us to break ground and complete the project by the end of the year.

We need a broader support base to help Hopewell Depot to fulfill its mission to instill future generations' interest in preserving history.

Any donations received beyond our target goal of $49,500 will be used for general building maintenance, programs, and events held at the Depot.

You can get involved with tax deductible donations for materials.
